My passions in life have taken me on many different adventures. From a week long teaching experience at Cookson Hills foster care in Oklahoma to spending a hot summer afternoon with orphaned children in Cambodia, I am reminded every day why I have chosen to work with children as a profession. It enables me to use my love for God, reading, nature, exercise, and travel to guide children in their life-long journey of learning.
I grew up in the suburbs of Indianapolis, Indiana. My family enjoyed taking camping trips all over the country and playing many different sports. During my senior year in high school I accepted Christ as my Lord and Savior and for the first time understood what a personal relationship with Him meant. Shortly after my dramatic life change, I went to Purdue University in Indiana and obtained a degree in Elementary Education.
During my stint at Purdue, I participated in many activities that complimented my interests and desires for the future. At the Purdue Christian Campus House, I was heavily involved in planning Sunday services, leading small groups, and managing church functions. Stemming from this involvement, I branched out from the Purdue community and began to go on mission trips. During college I went to both Oklahoma and the Dominican Republic on short term mission trips. I soon saw my passion for mission work and for the past two summers I have been blessed with the opportunity to visit Cambodia. Our team worked with children in two orphanages and held a professional outreach in the community. God did amazing things through both these activities.
Shortly after graduating from Purdue I married Matthew Speicher. We soon moved to Atlanta for him to pursue his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering at Georgia Tech. While Matthew was studying in graduate school, I taught at Tara Elementary School in Clayton County for three years. While living in Atlanta, we have become heavily involved at Buckhead Church and several of their environments.
I am very blessed to have the opportunity to work at Heritage Preparatory School. I am excited about this new beginning and look forward to the road ahead!
