Class 5, History and Literature (Classes 5-8)
If I were asked to identify one salient characteristic about myself, I would say something about my commitment to Christ. If I were asked to name a second characteristic, however, I would talk about my roots in this city of Atlanta. I grew up here with an older brother and sister, constantly surrounded by grandparents, great-grandparents, cousins, aunts, and uncles. In fact, that is still true of my life today, as none of my relatives seem to be able to stay away from this city for too long. Needless to say, I am very committed to seeing Jesus work in and through this place, and I am thrilled to be able to be a part of that at Heritage.
Though this is only my second year of teaching, I have always loved working with children, and I think I always knew that one day I would teach. As I pursued my B.A. in Literature at Washington and Lee University, I came home to run day camps every summer, purposefully passing up on more “career-oriented” opportunities. After college, I got married and worked in administration at a local engineering firm, while he completed his Masters program in Secondary Mathematics. As he was preparing for his first year at Mays High School, God finally gave me the proverbial green light. A friend alerted me to an opening at Heritage, and soon my husband and I were praying through the beginning of our respective school years.
Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, playing with my precious mutt, reading, and riding my bicycle. My newest passion is gardening, but you would not know that to look at my yard. Hopefully this will not be true by the time I am writing next year’s bio.
