Jonathan Haynes

Director of Curriculum, Class 7, Logic (Classes 7-8)
As the Director of Curriculum it is my job to ensure that there is continuity and purpose in all aspects of our education program. I want to be sure that each grade builds on the next and that all aspects of the Heritage school day serve the overall purpose and mission of the school. As a father, I have a vested interest in the education of my children, which carries over to both my teaching and my work in curriculum development. Through both education and experience, God has graciously equipped me to serve in my current role at Heritage. I grew up on a farm in Alabama. Travel to the Soviet Union and Japan whetted my appetite to see the world, so I joined the Navy as a midshipman at the U.S. Naval Academy. I graduated from USNA in 1995 with a B.S. in Political Science and accepted a commission in the U.S. Marine Corps.
My wife, Karena, and I met in high school and married after I finished The Basic School (and Karena finished her student teaching). We have five children (soon to be six) James, Mary Faith, Noah, Isaac, and Anna Hope. James will be in fifth grade at Heritage this year. Karena teaches our other children at home.
I was drawn to Classical Christian education after reading Recovering the Lost Tools of Learning while on active duty in California. While in California, Karena, James, and I drove to Moscow, Idaho, to visit Logos School. That trip and the contacts I made with ACCS eventually led me out of the active duty Marine Corps and into Classical Christian education.
I taught logic and rhetoric and worked with curriculum development at Providence Christian School in Dothan, Alabama, for six years before coming on staff at Heritage. I am currently working on a Masters of Education degree in Integrated Curriculum and Instruction from Covenant College (Lookout Mountain, GA).
My family and I are members of Grace Presbyterian Church in Douglasville.
