Libby Jackson
Director of Instruction
I have always thought of myself as a teacher. As children, my sisters and I were always playing school – and being the oldest, I was always the teacher. Many times we would include other neighborhood children in our play. I will never forget the day that Hunter Glidewell’s dad came to our home to thank me for helping his son with his schoolwork. This memory, along with many others, has made it obvious that this ability to teach was God-given and when I would try “something different” He kept pursuing me and directing me back to where He wanted me to serve.
I was raised in Sanford, Florida. I attended public schools from 1st through 12th grade there. My husband, Charlie, and I met at the University of South Florida and were married in December, 1968. My first year of teaching was back in Sanford as Charlie was then a lieutenant in the Army and fighting in Vietnam.
We have now been married 38 years. We have two sons, Allen and Brice. Allen works for BP. He and his wife Anne live in South Korea. Brice is a chiropractor. He and his wife, Megan, and our two grandchildren, Zollie and Sylvie, live in Marietta.
While loving parents raised me, it was my husband’s influence that led me to Christ. When our boys were 2 years and 6 months old we joined Harmony Grove United Methodist Church in Lilburn and we continue to worship there. Through Charlie’s guidance and the love and example modeled for me by fellow church members I have come to know a loving and caring God. One who will not let me slip away from Him. One who is there when I am too blind to see His presence. One who keeps pushing me to new challenges and who loves me with all of my “warts.”
I am so thankful that He has planted me at Heritage. He knew, before I had any idea, that this was the place for me to serve Him best. It is like coming home to a loving family.
