W. Davies Owens

Head of School

And as a native Atlantan, I am proud to be leading our unique school located in the heart of the cultural and arts center of the city.  As a child, I attended Morris Brandon, Westminster and Woodward Academy and later graduated from Furman University, Duke Divinity School and Gordon Conwell Seminary.

I have three children, ages nine, six and four who are all at Heritage.  Perhaps the most telling insight about our school comes from them.  It is not uncommon to hear how much they love school and miss their friends, teachers and even their favorite subjects when they are absent.  My wife, Holly, and I first became involved at Heritage as parents before I became a board member and now Head of School. So I can really appreciate both the internal and external perspective, making sure that administrative decisions balance with the realities of our modern families.

Prior to joining Heritage I was the Executive Director and co-founder of BlueSky Ministries, a rapidly expanding international ministry that serves as an “innovation center” to equip churches and para-church ministries around the world.  I also worked as the Director of Business Development for Christianity.com, where I spoke around the country to church leadership about appropriate uses of technology in reaching the culture.  My time studying at L’Abri Fellowship, an international Christian study center in Switzerland and England, has shaped and influenced my faith profoundly as a follower of Jesus Christ.

I am blessed to be a part of Heritage.  The motto of the school, Esse quam videri “to be rather than to seem” summarizes well my personal life goal. And in a world of the disposable and the insignificant, I’m proud to be a part of a school that takes character seriously without compromising academics or faith.
