Bridging the Gap: Sixth Grade at Heritage

At Heritage, sixth grade is more than just the next step in your child’s academic journey—it’s a thoughtfully designed bridge year that supports the transition from lower to upper school.

We believe sixth grade represents a uniquely formative season of development. Students at this stage often find themselves in between: not quite ready for the independence and rigor of upper school, yet ready to move beyond the structure and familiarity of lower school. Acknowledging this tension, we’ve intentionally designed Class 6 to offer the best of both worlds—allowing students to keep one foot in the supportive environment of lower school while gradually preparing them for the expectations of upper school.

Grade 6 is a formative bridge—intentionally designed to prepare students to enter upper school with a heart inclined toward truth, goodness, and beauty

This year is marked by intentional discipleship, stronger academic preparation, guided integration of technology, and the development of key executive functioning skills. In doing so, we help students grow in confidence and capability, while also supporting parents through this shift toward greater student independence. We believe this year is not simply a transition, but a time of transformation. With the right balance of support and challenge, students emerge from Class 6 equipped to enter upper school with confidence, maturity, and a clear understanding of what it means to pursue excellence with integrity.

Foundations at Heritage Preparatory School

Over the course of their Class 6 to Class 12 years, Heritage students learn a foundational set of business, financial, and life skills that will prepare them to confidently navigate a post-Christian marketplace.

At Heritage, we believe students should graduate with both wisdom and practical skills for life beyond the classroom.

Foundations is a signature upper school program for students in Classes 6 through 12 that equips them with essential business, financial, and life skills.

Through Foundations, students learn how to think wisely, steward resources faithfully, and engage a post-Christian marketplace with confidence and character.

The program is thoughtfully woven throughout all upper school grade levels (6th through 12th), ensuring students are prepared not only for college, but for lives of purpose and leadership.
