HERITAGE’S HISTORY

Believing the purpose of education is not the mere transfer of information but the preparation of
a mind, the nurturing of a heart, and the development of a soul, Heritage has spent the last
quarter century providing an academically rigorous educational experience designed to help
students know, love, and practice that which is true, good, and excellent and to prepare them to
live purposefully and intelligently in the service of God and man. In May of 2025, the first-ever
class of classical Christian high school students within the City of Atlanta will graduate from
Heritage Preparatory School. For over 25 years, Heritage has been at the forefront of providing
a biblically-based, classical education in partnership with parents. The school served students
through 8th grade until 2021 when the high school was launched. The total enrollment (Pre-K
through 12th) for the 2024-25 school year is 304.

PIONEERS AT HERITAGE: THE INAUGURAL GRADUATING CLASS

Heritage has sought to build a rich and unique high school, unlike any other academic
experience in the country. The first cohort of students who pioneered the high school helped
craft the culture and traditions that will benefit generations of students who will follow them.
From uniforms and the discipline policy to dances and selecting a school mascot, the Heritage
Class of 2025 left its mark on it all. In addition to the “must haves” that come with the launch
of a high school, students opted for a service focus, including a week-long mission trip to
Nicaragua in 10th grade as well as quarterly visits to the Atlanta Mission in service to our local
homeless community. While there was certainly excitement around building a high school, it was
not without risk. Lacking the college track record of an established high school, the first class of
graduates accepted the challenge of going first. The Heritage community is remarkably proud of
their courage, sacrifice, and creativity which will leave an indelible mark on the school and city.

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

As the first class in Heritage’s history to sit for the Classic Learning Test (CLT), the class of 2025
was recognized as the top school in the country on the 2022-2023 CLT10 School Rankings.
While Heritage’s academic standings are consistently excellent, the approach to testing is
thoughtfully crafted. An intentional choice has been made not to offer AP classes as part of the
core curriculum. Students may choose to sit for AP exams in addition to their regular course
load but they prepare for these exams on their own and without taking the AP courses. For
instance, in 2023 nine students opted to sit for AP History and averaged in the 95th percentile.
Additionally, the average ACT score for this inaugural class is in the 95th percentile.

The senior class has been able to participate in a more recent upper school experience:
Foundations at Heritage. Heritage’s vision is to progress through a Foundations cumulative
curriculum from grades 6 -12 in entrepreneurship, investing, networking, interviewing, and
finance to prepare students for their professional future.

Each graduating student will have read 75 great works of literature before high school
graduation. A classical education provides an opportunity to learn from and stand on the
wisdom of the many great minds who have gone before us. From works of great fiction such as
Steinbeck, Fitzgerald, and Hemingway to world-changing pieces from the likes of Sun Tzu,
Plato, Marx, and Marcus Aurelius to foundational writers of faith such as Augustine, Aquinas,
and Lewis, students have studied a plethora of perspectives and ideas. In addition to their
reading load, 12th-grade students undertake a year-long senior thesis which includes a written
paper that is a minimum of 5500 words and an hourlong oral presentation and defense of their
position in front of a panel of faculty and subject matter experts from the community. Finally,
HPS graduates leave the school with advanced knowledge of Latin, Art, and Classical Music.
